It’s been all hands on deck at Camberley Manor care home, as residents and staff came together to bake for a brilliant cause. To mark Cake4Kindness Day, celebrated on Thursday, 21st November, the team whipped up an incredible 188 homemade cakes, which were donated to Woking Foodbank.
The cakes were as varied as they were delicious – think festive Christmas fruit cake, zesty chocolate orange cake, classic carrot cake, and even a Bakewell tart! Camberley Manor wasn’t the only one baking, either. Across all nine TLC Care homes, more than 1,200 cakes were donated to charities and community organisations to help spread a little sweetness where it’s needed most.
Cake4Kindness Day, now in its second year, is all about tackling loneliness and isolation among vulnerable groups, such as people experiencing homelessness. The idea is simple – sharing cakes to create connections and spark a sense of kindness in the community.
At Camberley Manor, it wasn’t just about the baking – it was about sharing memories, too. Residents loved contributing their treasured family recipes, adding a personal touch to the cakes.
Girlie Braga, Home Manager at Camberley Manor, said:
“This has been a wonderful team effort. It’s been amazing to see our cakes going to Woking Foodbank and knowing they’ll bring a smile to someone’s face. We hope our small gesture helps spread kindness throughout the community.”
From rolling pins to community spirit, the team at Camberley Manor has shown just how far a little effort – and a lot of cake – can go. Cake4Kindness might be once a year, but the care and warmth it inspires last much longer.
