First Aid for Dogs

A PDSA survey revealed a significant lack of pet first aid knowledge among dog owners: over 90% of owners have no basic first aid skills. The findings highlight a major “skills gap” that could impact an pet’s outcome in an emergency.
Key statistics from the survey include:
  • Pet First Aid Knowledge: More than 90% of pet owners reported they had never received any formal pet first aid training.
  • CPR Awareness: 75% of owners stated they would not know how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on their pet.
  • Heatstroke Awareness: 46% of owners were unsure how to help their pet if it was suffering from heatstroke.
  • First Aid Kit Ownership: 80% of owners do not own a pet first aid kit.
  • Preparedness: Many owners feel uninformed when it comes to managing common illnesses or injuries affecting their pets.
PDSA vets emphasised that taking the right actions in the first few minutes of an emergency, before professional help arrives, can make a huge difference in the outcome.
I am running a First Aid for Dogs online course on zoom from 10am to 2pm on Saturday 22nd November and you are very warmly invited.
The course will empower attendees to know how to react in an emergency situation or if their dog, or a dog in their care, became unwell and what to do  before professional veterinary help is available.
The tutor is from Dog First Aid, who are a network of veterinary professionals and trainers with a shared vision – to give everyone with a dog in their life the skills and confidence to be able to act in an emergency.
Since 2013 thousands of people have been trained to provide the emergency care their dogs need before getting to a vet. In many cases this has saved the dog’s life. The course is CPD accredited, giving you an assurance of quality.
This half day course has been developed with members of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and covers:
* The foundations
* What to look for in an emergency
* How to take your dog’s vitals – pulse, breathing rate
and temperature
* CPR
* Seizures
* Bleeding
* Canine shock
* Gastric dilatation volvulus
* Burns & scalds
* Toxic ingestion
* Heat stroke
* Choking
On completion of the course, you will receive a certificate that is valid for 3 years.
Dog Owners – have peace of mind that you could provide the very best course of action to your furry friend in an unfortunate emergency.
Dog Care Professionals – give your customers the confidence that their beloved furry family member will receive the very best First Class care from your services.
Investment is £59 per person and places can be booked by emailing me alison@alisonmcwhinnie.com
