Girls in Merstham are celebrating after their football club received a £500 donation from a local housebuilder.
East Surrey Girls Football Club has used the money from Bellway South London to purchase new shirts for its U14 players, who play their home games at Merstham Recreation Ground.
The housebuilder is providing new homes at Sandstone Court in Merstham, on the site of its former offices, after moving to new headquarters in Redhill last year.
East Surrey Girls was founded by club chairman, secretary and U14s coach Emma Eaton to provide a friendly and safe space for girls to play and learn. There are also U13, U12, U11 and U10 teams as well as Wildcats training sessions for younger players.
Emma said: “When I formed the club around two years ago, it was to create an opportunity for girls to play football in a fun and safe environment and inspire and empower them to be the best people they can be on and off the pitch.
“Since the club was created, we have gone from strength to strength. Now that we have formed an under-10s team, we have five teams within the club for girls aged nine to 13.
“The shirts that we have been able to buy thanks to Bellway’s donation are amazing. The girls look super smart and they were so happy with them. This is a really kind gesture from Bellway to help us out.
“Without getting sponsorship we would not be able to operate, so we are very grateful for the money that Bellway has given us. They are the only company who have come forward to sponsor us this year, which makes their support even more invaluable.”
Daniel Williamson, Sales Director for Bellway South London, said: “East Surrey Girls Football Club has done a great job providing local young girls with a place to play football, and it was our pleasure to be able to help them out.
“The new shirts that the under-14s team now play in look amazing and we hope that the new kit will spur them on to continued success.
“As a housebuilder, it is important to us to show our support to local groups, clubs and organisations in the communities that surround the developments we build.”
There’s a range of one and two-bedroom apartments currently being built at Sandstone Court, off London Road North, Merstham, with the first homes set to be released for sale later this year.
