7th – 10th June 2023 at Camberley Theatre
CAMUS productions, a society based in Camberley providing high quality entertainment since 1967, present Calendar Girls – The Musical, written by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth, based on the play written by Tim Firth and on the potion picture of the same name written by Tim Firth and Juliette Towhidi.
In 1999, following the death of her husband John, Angela Baker and her friends from the Rylstone WI group, hoped that their ‘Alternate WI Calendar’ would raise £3000. The calendar of artfully posed nude portraits raised significantly more than their initial target and the story became the basis of the film starring Helen Mirren and Julie Walters and the stage play which was subsequently turned into the musical. To date, the Calendar Girls have raised over £6 million and it’s still going.
The story of the Calendar Girls continues to amaze and entertain and as with many productions that have taken place – and the many more to follow – we continue to raise money for Blood Cancer UK and also support other cancer charities including MacMillian, Phyliss Tuckwell, Children with Cancer, Myeloma UK and Bloodwise across the week of our production, supported by the sale of our very own calendar.
We hope to raise a smile with our production and our very own ‘action shots’ which we hope are as tantalisingly naked, yet discrete and tasteful as the original images from the Rhylstone and District Women’s Institute.
