Can you help Guardian Angels Carers support the vulnerable during Coronavirus?

Press Release from Guardian Angels Carers:

“Every day our amazing CareAngels head out into the community to support the elderly and vulnerable.

From 24/7 care to just meeting for a cuppa, our CareAngels provide people with a helping hand, a friend, and a regular face. With the possibility of widespread lockdown due to the Coronavirus, we have launched an appeal to ensure that – in the case of widespread school closures or mass self-isolation – sufficient care would be available for not only our clients but an increased number of vulnerable and elderly people in Surrey who may become isolated.

We are calling on people in our local communities in Staines, Spelthorne and surrounding villages to become Angel Reserve, like the Army Reserves, only less muddy! If you are able to help in any way, then we’d love to hear from you. All you have to do is be healthy and have time to offer, even if it’s just one hour per week.

Business Owner Louise Cobban says “This is a difficult time and we want to be prepared for the worst with a plan in place. Many people are in panic mode and our vulnerable people in Surrey shouldn’t be left alone. As a community, if we all pull together we can make this time easier on them”.

New recruits would be required to visit elderly people in their homes and help out with essential tasks – such as preparing meals and drinks, helping with medication or providing companionship in the form of ‘a cup of tea and a chat. More involved tasks such as washing and dressing would be left to our regular staff.

Our COVID-army reserves will be paid, giving those who are facing a loss of income due to closures an
opportunity to make some extra cash all whilst giving back to their community. We want to see as many
elderly people living happily and healthily in their own homes and support those people losing income all in one. This is a great opportunity to do just that.

These plans have been run past the Care Quality Commission, who have endorsed them as a short term
measure in the face of the virus outbreak.

More information about joining the Guardian Angels COVID-Army Reserves can be found on our website.
